vermonter as a young red sox fanA eukaryote is a living thing — an organism whose cells contain a nucleus and other organelles (like mitochondria) enclosed within membranes. You can look it up. You are, yourself, a eukaryote. So am I.

I’m Vermonter, but I’m not a Vermonter; I was born in Massachusetts. But I do live in northern New England now & I do a lot of different things. I take care of four alpacas, three cats and a dog. I write and do contract editorial, data and voice work. I have a little computer support consulting business. I used to be an administrator at a community college; I used to teach at a couple of different (small, private liberal arts; medium-sized state) colleges. Truth to tell, I have long suspected that I am constitutionally ill-suited to “normal” employment. Which is not to say I can’t work. I love to work. Given free reign over my own schedule, I tend to work as much as 14 or 15 hours a day on various projects — but I also take little naps when i feel like it, and walks with the dog, and alpaca breaks. I haven’t taught anything I ever trained for in school, but I have taught everything I ever did for a living, except typing & animal husbandry. I believe in kindness, good faith & snow days. I think people do the best they can. I love critters, jersey bed-sheets, the Boston Red Sox & Bob Dylan’s music. I make a fine pot roast. I remember fondly all but one of my old boy friends. And I may already be a winner in the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Sweepstakes.
